4/8: I never wore glasses, but now I was going blind - fast | epiretinal membrane

"I was in the throes of finishing my third book and looking forward to touring the country promoting it. If I went blind, it would have made things very difficult. All these worries were going through my head.

Mr Turner's diagnosis was epiretinal membrane, also known as cellophane retinopathy, which could be corrected by surgery.

In this condition, a membrane develops in the jelly-like substance of the eyeball, called the vitreous. This blocks information coming into the eye in the form of light, and distorts your vision."
