"Blepharitis causes inflammation of the eyelids. The condition can be difficult to manage because of its tendency to recur.
There are two forms of Blepharitis that occur:
- Anterior blepharitis affecting the front of the eyelid
- Posterior blepharitis affecting the inner eyelid.
Causes of Blepharitis
Blepharitis is most commonly caused by an infection of a common skin bacteria called Staphylococcus, other causes include seborrheic dermatitis (similar to dandruff along the edge of the eyelid )
Anterior blepharitis affects the front of the eyelid and the most common causes of anterior blepharitis are bacteria (Staphylococcus) and seborrheic dermatitis.
Posterior blepharitis affects the inner eyelid and is caused by problems with the oil (meibomian) glands under the eyelid. This form of blepharitis can be caused by two skin disorders: acne rosacea, which leads to red and inflamed skin, and seborrheic dermatitis."

If anyone is interested in seeing what posterior blepharitis looks like, there is a video here:
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
Shows the clogged meibomian pores that are difficult to express.
did'nt know it was like that. is posterior bleparitis common?. i have had blepharitis before, sure it was'nt posterior type, but wasnt nice.still comes on occasionally. thanks anyway for the info glassescomplete / tom. Al
Posterior blepharitis is quite common ... in fact, I think that I see the clogged meibomian glands more often than the lash debris that people think of when describing blepharitis.
That being said ... I think that the anterior blepharitis (buildup of junk on the eyelashes) seems to irritate people more, and my guess is that is what you suffered from in the past. Also very common, and I battle a little with this myself.
Thank you for the info Tom.
That makes a lot of sense.i get the junk on my eyelashes and it is irritating.
my optician has asked me to clean my eyelashes with baby shampoo twice a day to treat the blaepharitis if it re-occurs. is this correct?
Thank you Tom.
Al
Yeah,
Try a warm washcloth with a little baby shampoo to make it sudsy. The combination of warm water, suds, and wiping seems to clean the lashes well. Baby shampoo is nice, because it doesn't sting as much if accidently in your eyes.
