"Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden is backing a campaign to increase take-up of free eye checks for people over sixty. He has joined other MPs in supporting a Parliamentary motion welcoming the 2020 UK Vision strategy which is aimed at supporting older people, in particular the four million older people who still do not access eye tests. 'I welcome this campaign not just because it's highly relevant to older people in Blackpool where I've worked with both the local society for the blind and the Macular Disease Society to highlight the needs of visually impaired older people. advertisement 'Also, it spells out how good eye care is crucial to quality of life for older people,' Mr Marsden said. 'Regular check-ups can help older people live in their own homes for longer, maintain their overall independence and reduce the incidence of accidents and falls inside or outside of the house. 'I also want a strong focus from our local health trusts across the Fylde on preventative policy on healthcare for older people for precisely this reason. 'This campaign and eye care take-up is an issue I will want to press them on.'"
