2/4 : Everything you need to know about your child's eye test

"If the optician thinks your child needs glasses he or she will then test out lenses of different strengths on your child. Your child will then be asked to either read the standard letters chart or read a special chart with shapes on it instead. This is especially useful for younger children or those that are not sure of their alphabet. The optician will also use picture books and other visual materials to test for colour blindness and how clearly your child can see.

Which frames are best for children?
If your child needs glasses he or she will be given an NHS voucher. This will go towards the cost of any glasses prescribed. The value of the voucher will depend on the strength of the prescription your child needs. 'The voucher will get you a basic pair of spectacles but if your child wants designer frames, parents will have to pay a bit more,'"
