6/8: I never wore glasses, but now I was going blind - fast | epiretinal membrane

"THE SURGEON

George Turner is consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Manchester Eye Hospital.

He says: Epirtetinal membrane affects about 2-5 per cent of the population over the age of 75, but can occur in younger people.

Sometimes it is linked to a previous eye injury involving the retina or an inflammation of the eye.

The problem may be slight and no surgery is required, but often the patient has sufficient loss of vision to merit surgery. It is rare for it to occur in both eyes at the same time."
